Study visit
Vila Nova de Gaia is a municipality with about 300 000 inhabitants, with a population density of almost 1.800 hab/ km2, being the third most populous of the country.

Since early, the issue of nature and leisure was a priority of the municipality that created, in 1983, the Biological Park of Gaia, symbol of all work in favour of environmental education followed by the declaration of successive spaces with natural values on the banks and at the mouth of the Douro river, and still in the dune cordon of the coast.

The visit dedicated to the theme of the periurban parks will begin with the Biological Park of Gaia where the whole network of peri-urban natural spaces will be known and the specific problem of spaces of this nature, followed by a visit to the facilities and spaces of the park. After lunch, we will visit some of the other natural spaces of the network.
